Biblical Teaching from a Reformed Perspective

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy
name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou
hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Ps. 138:2

our position in Christ by Mike Aldridge

Before Christ

What is man that Thou art mindful of him?

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: (Ps 8:4-6)

See also Hebrews 2:5-9

Job asks: 17 What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him? (Job 7:17)

14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? 15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight. 16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water? Job 15:14

Dead in trespasses and sins

1 And you hath he quickened , who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires? of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (Eph. 2:1-3)

Enemies in mind by wicked works

21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled (Col. 1:21)

Worthy of death

"Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death , not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. ( Rom. 1:32) The search has not been started. Use the Continue Search button to start the search.

Deserving of God's Wrath

1 And you hath he quickened , who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath , even as others. (Eph. 2:1-3)

In Christ

There is no condemnation

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. ( Rom. 8:1)

We are saved to glorify God's grace through all eternity

God's purpose in our redemption is not simply to rescue us from hell, as great a work as that is. His ultimate purpose in our salvation is that for all eternity the church might glorify God's grace (Eph. 1:6, 12, 14).

We are seated in heavenly places

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: (Eph. 6:4)

We have been made Kings and Priests

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth (Rev. 5:10; See also Rev. 1:6)

We shall judge this world and the angels

2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? (1 Cor. 6:1-3)

 We shall reign with him

Matt. 24:45-47

12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him : (2 Tim. 2:12)

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth (Rev. 5:10; See also Rev. 1:6)

5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. (Rev. 22:5)

We are heirs of God, joint-heirs with Jesus Christ

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him , that we may be also glorified together. ( Rom. 8:17)

CONCLUSION:

The Principle

The Biblical principle is always: 11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke 14:11)

We do not strive for any of these positions: Remember James and John? (Mark 10:35-40)

The Promise

21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (Rev. 3:21)

Our business is to present the Christian faith clothed in modern terms, not to propagate modern thought clothed in Christian terms. Confusion here is fatal.
